WASHINGTON – Naval District Washington (NDW) celebrates Navy Ombudsman Appreciation Day, Sept. 14, 2026. The Navy Family Ombudsman Program, established in 1970, utilizes volunteer Ombudsmen to serve as a vital communication link between Navy command leadership and military families. Operating across the National Capital Region, NDW's shore-based Ombudsmen provide critical resource referral, guidance, and support to ensure family readiness and resilient shore installations.
