    1. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) is provided as a public service operated by Defense Media Activity (DMA) on behalf of the Department of the Defense in support of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force), combatant commands and government services serving worldwide.
    2. If you choose to provide us with personal information -- like filling out a Contact Us form with email and/or phone number -- we only use that information to respond to your message or request. We will never share the information you give us with another government agency unless required by law. We never create individual profiles or give it to any private organizations. DVIDS never collects information for commercial marketing. While you must provide an email address or phone number for a response other than those generated automatically in response to questions or comments that you may submit, we recommend that you NOT include any other personal information, especially Social Security numbers. The Social Security Administration offers additional guidance on sharing your Social Security number
    3. Information presented on this service not identified as protected by copyright is considered public information and may be distributed or copied. Use of appropriate byline, photo, and image credits is requested.
    4. For site management, information is collected [Link "information is collected" to description of specific information. This U.S. Government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.
    5. We maintain a variety of physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.
    6. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations and national security purposes, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration Guidelines. Web measurement and customization technologies (WMCT) are used on this site to remember your online interactions, to conduct measurement and analysis of usage.
    7. The DVIDS does not use the information associated with WMCT to track individual user activity on the Internet.
    8. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this site are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1987 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act (18 U.S.C. ยง 1030).

    xxx.yyy.com (or 123.123.23.12) -- this is the host name (or Internet protocol (IP) address) associated with the requester (you as the visitor). In this case, the requester is coming from the xxx.yyy.net address. Depending on the requester's method of network connection, the host name (or IP address) may or may not identify the user's specific computer. Connections via many Internet Service Providers (ISP) assign different IP addresses for each session, or only connect to the Internet via proxy servers, so the host name may only identify the ISP.
