This logo was created using vector-based graphics and techniques in Adobe Illustrator to represent the "Seaworthy STEMâ„¢ in a Box" educational resources created at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division in West Bethesda, Md. Seaworthy STEMâ„¢ in a Box is a Navy initiative to provide enhanced Naval-relevant, standards-aligned, hands-on activities to K-12 teachers and students. The lessons are designed to guide students through scientific inquiry-based theory and the engineering design process, and support teachers as they select content, acquire materials and implement more hands-on STEM activities in their classrooms.
The logo integrates the Seaworthy STEM in a Box branded typeface, as well as it's branded colors from the educational booklets. It shows an open book to relate to both the literal use of student and teacher workbooks, along with the more figurative nod to the pursuit of knowledge and growth of new skills. The logo uses Navy blue as the main color to represent the U.S. Navy, and the page highlight colors of purple, green, yellow, and orange page all represent the color-coded Grade series in the Seaworthy STEM in a Box kits.
Carderock, the Navy's innovation and ship design powerhouse, is a world-class research and development facility specializing in critical ship design and components. (U.S. Navy graphic by Kristin Behrle)
