Senior Drill Instructor Staff Sgt. Jordan Rivera commented, “Vasquez in the beginning was very quiet and didn’t stand out. I did not notice until we had a conversation about why he wanted to join. Immediately, I saw his level of commitment was true to how we hold ourselves as Marines, he had that in him since day one. The example of the drill instructors living the same standard and sleeping where they slept, motivated Vasquez to lead by example. He embodies the leadership principle of “know your Marines and look out for their welfare,” which is what I would want any of my Marines to emulate.
