WEST GERMANY – V Corps Soldiers part of the 84th Army Band, V Corps stand together for a group photo in West Germany, 1956. U.S. Army V Corps was stationed in West Germany in 1956. The corps headquarters was located at Franklin D. Roosevelt Barracks (initially Camp King) in Oberursel, near Frankfurt, within the American Zone of Occupation. V Corps commanded the Northern Area Command (NACO) of USAREUR, overseeing units across southern and central West Germany, including the 3rd Armored Division, which began deploying east of the Rhine River in May/June 1956 to replace the 4th Infantry Division. This positioning strengthened NATO’s forward defenses against potential Soviet threats. Photo by Specialist 5 McDougal. (U.S. Army photo illustration by Sgt. Devin Klecan)
