    U.S. Army V Corps

IRAQ – V Corps, a historic U.S. Army formation originally activated in World War I and headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany (later Wiesbaden), played a pivotal role in the early stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). In June 2003, V Corps assumed command of Combined Joint Task Force 7 (CJTF-7), an interim multinational headquarters that directed coalition military operations in Iraq during the post-invasion occupation phase. This marked a shift from combat-focused invasion to stabilization, security, and reconstruction efforts. CJTF-7 was essentially the reorganized V Corps staff, augmented with personnel from across the U.S. Army and coalition partners. Courtesy Photo. (U.S. Army photo illustration by Sgt. Devin Klecan)
