231015-N-TY704-1001 PACIFIC OCEAN (October 15, 2023) A layout and design used for the cover of “Wingspan”, the shipboard magazine publication aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. The design incorporates the logos for all of the squadrons aboard Vinson, to include from left to right: “Blue Hawks” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 78, “Black Eagles” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 113, “Golden Dragons” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 192, “Bounty Hunters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 2, “Warhawks” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 97, “Gauntlets” of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136, “Stingers” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 113, “Titans” of Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30, and “Black Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 4. On the top are the overall in-charge commands including Carrier Strike Group (CSG) ONE, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) ONE, and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) Two. At the center is the logo for Vinson, with a multi-circular design that shows the forward progression of the entire strike group. The diamond design was also used for the WESTPAC 2023-2024 T-shirts for the crew aboard Vinson. Vinson, Carrier Strike Group 1’s flagship, is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations.
