At Norfolk Naval Shipyard, our primary mission is to repair, maintain, and modernize the fleet to ensure mission readiness. We cannot achieve that without prioritizing the health and safety of every service member, civilian, and contractor who steps through our gates.
June is National Safety Month and it is a critical reminder that safety isn't just a compliance requirement—it is a culture we build together every single shift. The work we do is complex and often hazardous, making it essential that we look out for one another.
This month, and every month, we ask the NNSY workforce to focus on the fundamentals:
--Situational Awareness: Always be aware of your surroundings, heavy machinery, and ongoing operations in the dry docks and shops.
--Procedural Compliance: Follow all technical instructions to the letter. There are no shortcuts when it comes to the safety of our team and our vessels.
--Proper PPE: Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment for your specific task, every single time.
--See Something, Say Something: If you spot a hazard, stop work if necessary, and report it immediately.
We are one team, and our greatest asset is our people. Let’s commit to continuous improvement, watch each other's backs, and ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
