A 360-degree video camera image illustrates the demolition team inspecting debris after a controlled implosion, while a Black Hawk helicopter flies overhead, during the removal of the lock chambers at Locks and Dam 3 on the Monongahela River in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, Aug. 19, 2025.
Demolition of the dam and chamber walls restored a continuous riverway stretching thirty miles from Charleroi to Braddock, Pennsylvania. This portion of the Lower Monongahela Project is expected to last until 2027, bringing the over 100-year old story of one of the oldest functioning locks and dam in the nation to a close.
