This infographic was created using Adobe Photoshop to highlight U.S. Marines who demonstrated unwavering selflessness in the line of duty at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 18, 2026. Retired U.S. Marine Corps GySgt. Ryan M. Krochmolny, was serving as a machine gun section leader with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, when he earned the Bronze Star with Combat "V" in 2011. During his deployment to Sangin, Afghanistan, then Sgt. Krochmolny, carried a wounded Marine more than 500 yards through enemy machine gun fire to safety. When the firefight escalated, he laid his body over the wounded Marine to shield him from incoming fire while simultaneously engaging the enemy. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic by Lance Cpl. Zackery Dear)
