MEUSE ARGONNE, France -- U.S. Army V Corps Soldiers and tanks pass through Meuse Argonne Sept. 26, 1918. The Meuse-Argonne Offensive (September 26–November 11, 1918) was the largest and bloodiest operation for the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in World War I, involving 1.2 million U.S. troops. V Corps, under the AEF’s First Army, played a critical role in the campaign, which aimed to break the German Hindenburg Line and force an armistice. The corps included several divisions, notably the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 32nd, 79th, and 91st Infantry Divisions at various stages in the campaign. (U.S. Army photo illustration by Sgt. Devin Klecan)
