After the Battle of Coral Sea, the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) returned to Pearl Harbor severely damaged, and shipyard workers they had just 72 hours to make her battle-ready. The most urgent repairs were made allowing the “Fighting Lady” to steam ahead into battle serving as a crucial element in the famed Battle of Midway. Illustrating naval history in connection to Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard supports the DoW mission of preserving naval heritage and fostering pride in our service's history and communicates authentically to our audience why the mission is important to serving the nation.
PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight” by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East. (U.S. Navy graphic by Camey Streff)
