Staff Sgt. Blake Simms, representing U.S. Army Training and Doctorine Command, hurries to his next battle drill station to fire at targets in a battle drill as part of the weapons qualification test Oct. 4, at Fort Lee, Va. Simms and 11 other non-commissioned officers are competing for the title of Department of the Army Best Warrior. The 12 NCOs and an additional 12 Soldiers will spend this week at Fort Lee competing in events such as the board, land navigation and warrior tasks. The winners will be announced at a ceremony, Oct. 8, in the District of Columbia. Simms is currently assigned as a Ranger instructor in the 4th Ranger Training Battalion located at Fort Benning, Ga. Simms, who hails from Columbus, Ga., has served in the Army for eight years.
