Spc. Jonathan W. Batten, representing U.S. Army Pacific, puts together an M240B weapon as part of the common tasks test, Oct. 4, at Fort Lee, Va. Batten and 11 other Soldiers are competing for the title of Department of the Army Best Warrior. The 12 Soldiers and an additional 12 non-commissioned officers will spend this week at Fort Lee competing in events such as the board, weapons, land navigation and warrior tasks. The winners will be announced at a ceremony, Oct. 8, in the District of Columbia. Batten is currently assigned as a network switching systems operator and maintainer in the 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, located Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. Batten, who hails from Douglas, Ga., has served in the Army for four years.
