A U.S. Air National Guard Civil Engineer takes a defensive position during ground combat training at Patriot Forge II at Ft. Devens Army Reserve Training Area, Massachusetts, Aug. 11, 2026. The exercise allowed Civil Engineers to train critical defensive skills, vital when supporting the defense of an installation. Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force units are specialized to enable the projection and recovery of airpower beyond the Main Operating Base by providing combat support, base-level utility maintenance, and emergency response capabilities.
