Air crew with the 173d Air Refueling Squadron, don protective coverings during a simulation, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Nebraska National Guard air base in Lincoln, Nebraska. The scenario replicated radioactive particles entering the aircraft through the auxiliary power unit and contaminating aircrew, requiring personnel to be isolated, scanned, and decontaminated. This simulation was a part of a four-day Combat Readiness Inspection testing the deployment readiness and the supporting infrastructure required to execute wartime operations.
