Staff Sgt. Neil Wegley, 155th Explosive Ordnance Disposal team lead, approaches a simulated suspicious package, Feb. 5, 2026, at the Nebraska National Guard air base in Lincoln, Nebraska. Wegley donned a bomb protective suit, commonly referred to as a “hurt locker,” to test EOD’s ability to mitigate similar threats in a contested environment. EOD, along with the entire 155th Air Refueling Wing, experienced scenarios like this during a Combat Readiness Inspection which replicated real-world challenges in contested environments.
