A North American Aerospace Defense Command F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft escorts a Russian Su-35 Flanker and Tu-95 Bear bomber through the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone over the Bering Sea on Sept. 24, 2025. NORAD aircraft including four F-16s, four KC-135 Stratotankers and an E-3 Sentry responded to positively identify and intercept the Russian aircraft. U.S. and Canadian senior enlisted leaders from North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command gathered at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, May 12-13 to discuss and synchronize SEL functions during contingency and crisis operations.
