    U.S. Army Pfc. Stephanie Ortegon, a military police officer assigned to the 603rd Military Police Company, 109th Military Police Battalion, disassembles an M249 squad automatic weapon during the race event of the 603rd Dark Knight competition at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Sept. 10, 2026. During the race, teams were evaluated at different stations on topics such as physical fitness, vehicle maintenance knowledge, proficiency in providing medical care and understanding of various weapon systems, and upon completing a given task, they would receive a clue to the location of their next station. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO allies. V Corps is operationalizing and expanding the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative with Allies, rapidly integrating emerging technologies into training and tactical plans.
