From time-to-time, teams need to be put through their paces to ensure success in real world situations. On NOV 22, U.S. Army Garrison - Kwajalein Atoll: Fire crews, EMS, LEO, Air Traffic Control, Hospital, and Garrison Emergency response teams were thrown a curveball in a normal workday with a Downed Aircraft Exercise. One of USAG-KA's commuter planes took off from the airfield, and soon after going airborne, radioed the tower to say the left engine was on fire. After that, each team locked into the situation to handle their responsibilities throughout the exercise. With manikins, and live action role players acting as victims on the plane, all systems and personnel were pushed to their limits. Lessons were learned and USAG-KA established areas that need improvements. Difficult training days make for smoother real-world days.
