A large herd of goats and sheep, displaying varied coat colors including black, white, brown, and mixed patterns, are being herded through a dry, semi-arid landscape with sparse acacia trees. Dust is visibly stirred up by the movement of the animals. At least two human herders are visible in the background guiding the flock.

Veterinary assistants from Isiola, Kenya, treat herded goats during a Veterinary Civic Action Program, or VETCAP, in Daaba, Kenya, Aug. 5, 2012. The VETCAP involved local civilians; the Kenyan military; a local veterinarian; a representative from the international organization Veterinaires Sans Frontieres-Suisse; and civil affairs soldiers from Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, or CJTF-HOA. CJTF-HOA participates in many VETCAPs across East Africa, aiming to help strengthen the capabilities of community based animal health workers, ensure livestock health, enhance agriculture and economic stability and develop trust and confidence with partner nations.
