A group of women in traditional colorful attire and beaded jewelry tend to a large herd of goats in a dusty, tree-lined enclosure. The scene depicts pastoral life consistent with East African herding communities, likely Samburu or Maasai. Dust raised by the livestock fills the air, creating a hazy atmospheric quality throughout the image.

Local villagers keep goats herded during a Veterinary Civic Action Program, or VETCAP in Daaba, Kenya, Aug. 5, 2012. The VETCAP involved local civilians, the Kenyan military, a local veterinarian, a representative from the international organization Veterinaires Sans Frontieres-Suisse, and civil affairs soldiers from Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, or CJTF-HOA. CJTF-HOA participates in many VETCAPs across East Africa, aiming to help strengthen the capabilities of community based animal health workers, ensure livestock health, enhance agriculture and economic stability and develop trust and confidence with partner nations.
