A group of men are herding a large number of cattle through a dusty, arid enclosure with sparse dry trees. The herders are using long sticks to guide the animals toward what appears to be a metal gate or pen structure in the foreground. The setting and traditional attire suggest an East African pastoral community, likely Samburu or Maasai.

Local villagers herd cattle to be vaccinated during a Veterinary Civic Action Program, or VETCAP, in Daaba, Kenya, Aug. 5, 2012. The VETCAP involved local civilians, the Kenyan military, a local veterinarian, a representative from the international organization Veterinaires Sans Frontieres-Suisse, and civil affairs soldiers from Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, or CJTF-HOA. CJTF-HOA participates in many VETCAPs across East Africa, aiming to help strengthen the capabilities of community based animal health workers, ensure livestock health, enhance agriculture and economic stability and develop trust and confidence with partner nations.
