    U.S. Army Pfc. Mubashir Aweda, a military police officer assigned to the 603rd Military Police Company, 109th Military Police Battalion, fires an M17 pistol at a stationary target during the range operations portion of the 603rd Dark Knight competition at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Sept. 8, 2026. The range operations included participants conducting their annual individual weapons qualification as well as additional weapons drills devised by unit leadership to evaluate competitors’ marksmanship and ability to adapt to different potential combat scenarios. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO allies. V Corps is operationalizing and expanding the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative with Allies, rapidly integrating emerging technologies into training and tactical plans.
