SAN DIEGO (Aug. 19, 2025) — During a jaw-in-a-day procedure at Naval Medical Center San Diego, surgeons with the Maxillofacial Restoration Program complete the fibula harvest, removing a precisely shaped section of the lower-leg bone—along with its blood supply—that will be transplanted to rebuild the patient’s jaw in the same operation. The graft, shown secured in place with surgical guides, is prepared for transfer to the surgical team working simultaneously on the patient’s head and neck. (DoW photo by Regena Kowitz)
