SAN DIEGO (Aug. 19, 2025) — Surgeons with the Maxillofacial Restoration Program remove a section of bone from the patient’s lower leg as part of a jaw-in-a-day reconstructive surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego. The long incision exposes the fibula so the team can attach a custom 3D-printed cutting guide, which helps them shape the bone and its blood vessels precisely before transplanting it to rebuild the patient’s jaw during the same operation.
