SAN DIEGO (Aug. 19, 2025) — A segment of a patient’s diseased mandible rests on a sterile field after being removed during a complex jaw-in-a-day procedure at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Surgeons with the Maxillofacial Restoration Program removed the bone and rebuilt the jaw using a healthy section of the patient’s leg bone in a single surgery. (DoW photo by Regena Kowitz)
