SAN DIEGO (Aug. 19, 2025) — A newly shaped section of the patient’s leg bone (fibula)—secured with surgical plates and alignment pins—is positioned on sterile drapes during a jaw-in-a-day surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego. The bone graft, prepared using custom 3D-printed guides, will be transplanted to replace the diseased portion of the patient’s jaw in the same operation performed by surgeons with the Maxillofacial Restoration Program.
