USS MAKIN ISLAND, Pacific Ocean (October 31, 2016) – Sgt. Alex Shargorodski, a joint forward observer (JFO) with Firepower Control Team 5, Supporting Arms Liaison Team C, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, collects and records situational updates of the airspace during a close-air support simulation conducted on and around the USS Makin Island (LHD 8), while afloat in the Pacific Ocean, Oct. 31, 2016. While JFOs must be well-versed in directing air gunfire, the Marines of ANGLICO must also show a proficiency in directing naval gunfire for joint or foreign military operations.
