U.S. Marine Brig. Gen. John Jansen rides in a combat rubber raiding craft with Philippine Marines Brig. Gen. Maximo V. Ballesteros and Col. Ariel R. Caculitao, and U.S. Marines from Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, III Marine Expeditionary Force during Philippine Amphibious Landing Exercise 33 (PHIBLEX) in Ternate, Philippines, Oct. 5, 2016. PHIBLEX is an annual U.S.-Philippine military bilateral exercise that combines amphibious capabilties and live-fire training with humanitarian civic assistance efforts to strengthen interoperability and working relationships. Jansen is the commanding general of 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III MEF. Ballesteros is the director of Philippine forces involved with PHIBLEX 33. Caculitao is the deputy director.
