U.S. Air Force pararescuemen assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron and Icelandic Coast Guard personnel transport a simulated casualty as an Icelandic Coast Guard Airbus H225 Super Puma departs during an artificial mass casualty scenario as part of exercise Northern Viking 26 at Keflavík Air Base, Iceland, Aug. 30, 2026. The scenario allowed U.S. and Icelandic responders to coordinate aircraft, ground rescue teams and medical personnel during the artificial large-scale casualty response. Realistic training strengthens the readiness and interoperability necessary for joint teams to respond to emergencies and maintain security in the High North.
