A U.S. Air Force MQ-9 Reaper aircraft assigned to the 147th Attack Wing, Texas Air National Guard, takes off during a search and rescue training mission as part of exercise Northern Viking 26 at Keflavík Air Base, Iceland, Aug. 28, 2026. The SAR mission integrates MQ-9 Reapers with a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and an Icelandic Coast Guard Airbus H225 Super Puma to rehearse coordinated SAR operations. Practicing SAR together with Allies strengthens the relationships, interoperability and military readiness necessary to respond to shared challenges in the Arctic and North Atlantic.
