U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Dane Schielke, an explosive ordnance disposal officer assigned to EOD, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, buckles BDU-45s to a Rough Terrain Military Forklift during an ordnance disposal operation at Ie Shima, Japan, May 28, 2026. BDUs are inert 500-pound training rounds used by pilots and ground crew to safely practice dropping and loading procedures without the risk of high explosives. EOD Marines disposed of numerous pieces of unexploded ordnance, discovered by local farmers, in order to preserve the safety of the local community. Schielke is a native of Florida.
