U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sgt. Joseph Fuchs, an explosive ordnance disposal technician assigned to EOD, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, examines a bomb dummy unit (BDU) during an ordnance disposal operation at Ie Shima, Japan, May 28, 2026. BDUs are inert 500-pound training rounds used by pilots and ground crew to safely practice dropping and loading procedures without the risk of high explosives. EOD Marines disposed of numerous pieces of unexploded ordnance, discovered by local farmers, in order to preserve the safety of the local community. Fuchs is a native of Indiana.
