U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Chase Rossi, a heavy equipment operator assigned to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, loads bomb dummy units (BDU) into a truck during an ordnance disposal operation at Ie Shima, Japan, May 28, 2026. BDUs are inert 500-pound training rounds used by pilots and ground crew to safely practice dropping and loading procedures without the risk of high explosives. EOD Marines disposed of numerous pieces of unexploded ordnance, discovered by local farmers, in order to preserve the safety of the local community. Rossi is a native of Iowa.
