U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Edward E. Kajko, explosive ordnance disposal technician, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency 26-3LA recovery team 2, investigates an unknown metal signal during a recovery operation in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, March 6, 2026. EOD technicians utilize metal detectors to locate any metal hits within a unit, as well as render safe any unexploded ordnance found on site.There are approximately 1,566 personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, 280 of those unresolved cases are located in Laos.
