Dr. Kahrananda Sharma, a researcher with the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory (NAMRL), demonstrates how lasers can cause a dazzle effect on cockpit glass to Brig. Gen. Dr. Bernhard Gross, surgeon general of the German Air Force, during a laboratory tour at Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) Dayton, April 10, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Gross visited NAMRU with Col. Dr. Helmut Fleischer, orthopedic and flight surgeon, to receive a command brief, tour the NAMRL and Environmental Health Effects Laboratory (EHEL) facilities, and observe the Disorientation Research Device (DRD), also known as “Kraken™.” NAMRU Dayton, part of Navy Medicine Research and Development, participates in medical research and development efforts dedicated to advancing warfighter lethality by protecting and enhancing health, readiness and performance through cutting-edge toxicology, environmental health and aerospace medical studies.
