Ms. Grinta Ale’eke, Field Archaeologist Solomon Islands Museum, and service members assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), and local workers excavate dirt in a unit, March 10, 2023 in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. The team excavates areas of interest narrowed down by the Scientific Recovery Expert in order to find possible evidence or osseous linked to unaccounted-for U.S. personnel. Guadalcanal was the location of many important battles in the Pacific Theater during WWII between the Allies and the Japanese and there are still 5,800 missing U.S. service members in the region.
