Local workers move buckets back to a storage area at the end of a workday during a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery mission, Feb. 25, 2023, in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. Recovery missions employ up to 100 local workers to expedite the process in order to find possible evidence or osseous linked to unaccounted-for U.S. personnel. Guadalcanal was the location of many important battles in the Pacific Theater during WWII between the Allies and the Japanese, and there are still 5,800 missing U.S. service members in the region.
