B-roll package of an interment ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 9, 2024. The ceremony honored the life of U.S. Navy Chief Water Tender Francis Daniel Day, who served on the USS Oklahoma when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft during World War II. The USS Oklahoma suffered multiple torpedo hits, causing it to capsize. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified Day on July 29, 2019.
As she scanned the area, she found that there were drastic changes to the landscape since the previous excavation and her plan had to compensate for those changes. It was on Jan 21, 2023, that she, along with the service members and civilians of recovery team one with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), reached a possible site of a pilot lost during the Vietnam War.
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) signed a Framework Arrangement with the Government of Indonesia March 21 that permits the first DPAA joint research and survey mission later this year of Americans missing from World War II in Indonesia.
