    U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 603rd Military Police Company, 109th Military Police Battalion, receive instructions from Staff Sgt. Andrew Sommerfield, competition Medical NCO, on the medical fitness test portion of the 603rd Dark Knight competition at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Sept. 7, 2026. The medical fitness test involved competitors sprinting to provide tactical combat casualty care to a simulated casualty, carrying the casualty to cover, conducting a four-minute plank to simulate applying pressure to a wound, loading the casualty into a skid for transport and then dragging the skid under a stretch of simulated razor wire, all while being timed for efficiency. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO allies. V Corps is operationalizing and expanding the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative with Allies, rapidly integrating emerging technologies into training and tactical plans.
