    FORT RILEY, Kan. — Army ROTC Cadet Perla Flores Aguirre, a nursing student from Lander University, uses a stethoscope to perform a clinical assessment on a newborn infant less than 24 hours old on a specialized pediatric warming and assessment unit at Irwin Army Community Hospital. Flores Aguirre, an enlisted Army Reserve Human Resources Specialist (42A) who hopes to specialize in Labor and Delivery upon commissioning, is participating in the hospital’s four-week Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP). The program allows future Nurse Corps officers to gain advanced, hands-on clinical and bedside experience under the direct supervision of military and civilian preceptors.
