Ramran Stringer, an Illinois Army National Guard second lieutenant, holds 7-month-old Londyn, during Northern Illinois University’s Army ROTC Commissioning Ceremony, May 15, in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium on the university’s campus in Dekalb, Ill. Stringer, an officer in the 2nd Squadron, 106th Cavalry Regiment, commissioned through NIU Army ROTC last year and saw his friend, Mark Branklin, commission as a second lieutenant during this Spring’s ceremony. Ten cadets commissioned as second lieutenants during the ceremony including five joining the Illinois Army National Guard.
