Fellows attending National Defense University's Keystone course listen to U.S. Space Command leaders discuss space operations and USSPACECOM's role in deterring aggression, defending national interests, and defeating threats in space during a presentation in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jan. 12, 2026. Chief Master Sgt. Carolyn Russell U.S. Air Forces Central Command command chief, said the course is critical for advancing senior enlisted development, especially for those who may serve at the flag officer level. She said the USSPACECOM presentation enhanced her understanding of the command's mission. "The USSPACECOM briefings and tour of Cheyenne Mountain were especially insightful. I gained understanding of the complexities of military space power and the vital capabilities it brings to the joint force. The USSPACECOM mission impacts all of us by not only deterring adversaries and defending the space domain but safeguarding our way of life by protecting the vital assets that enable modern, everyday technology." The Keystone Course educates senior enlisted leaders currently serving in or selected to serve in general or flag officer-level joint headquarters or service headquarters that could be assigned as a joint task force. USSPACECOM works with senior leaders across the Department of War and our allies to foster a warfighting culture and promote professional growth, which is instrumental to the rapidly advancing capabilities of the Joint Force.
