Yank, the Army Weekly, article featuring the death of Cpl. Bob Krell, a Yank Correspondent, was killed in action on March 24, 1945. The United States military published the magazine during World War II. The magazine’s correspondents, photographers, and artists were primarily enlisted soldiers, with a few officers serving as managers, and it was initially available only to the U.S. Army in overseas combat theaters. One of its most popular features, intended to boost the morale of military personnel serving overseas, included pin-up photographs of female actresses, models, and film personalities. The last publication was on Dec. 28, 1945, and the office officially closed on New Year’s Eve. (Image courtesy of YANK archives)
