Former U.S. Army Sgt. Fredrick H. Hill of La Grande, Oregon, is interviewed by a local Portland Television station during the 70th Anniversary of the formation of the Oregon National Guard’s 123rd Observation Squadron, held on April 15, 2011, at the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland, Oregon. Hill is one of only 11 surviving members of the unit, which was established on April 18, 1941. He deployed overseas to the Southern Pacific Theater of Operations from October 1943 to October 1945 and served as Photo Lab Chief for the 17th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, part of the 5th Air Force.
