Former U.S. Army Sgt. Fredrick H. Hill of La Grande, Oregon, addresses those in attendance at the 75th Anniversary of the formation of the Oregon National Guard’s 123rd Observation Squadron, held on April 18, 2016, at the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland, Oregon. Hill, dressed in his vintage uniform, is one of only two surviving members of the unit, which was established on April 18, 1941. He deployed overseas to the Southern Pacific Theater of Operations from October 1943 to October 1945 and served as Photo Lab Chief for the 17th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, part of the 5th Air Force.
