An Oregon National Guard aircraft mechanic works in freezing conditions on a 123rd Observation Squadron, North American O-47 observation aircraft during an engine change at Yakima, Washington, sometime in late 1942. The squadron operated a detachment of aircraft in Yakima from mid-May to the end of November 1942, supporting Field Artillery units with observation of fire, air-ground liaison, and photographic missions.
