Spc. Zane Shuman, from Troy, Ohio, searches a home in the western Ninevah province near the Syrian border Aug. 4, 2004. The residents of the home are suspected of smuggling weapons into Iraq from Syria. Shuman and his fellow Soldiers from Company B, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) participated in Operation Phantom Linebacker, an operation designed to stem the flow of munitions and foreign fighters from Syria. During this search, they detained 20 people for questioning. Terrorists have been suspected of using the region as a haven from which they conduct their attacks.
