Spc. Zane Shuman, from Troy, Ohio, secures the outer perimeter of a home along the Iraq-Syria Border on Aug. 4, 2004. The residents of the home are suspected of smuggling weapons and explosives into Iraq and then distributing them to terrorist cells in the region. Terrorists then use the weapons to attack multinational and Iraqi security forces. Shuman and his fellow Soldiers of 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) participated in Operation Phantom Linebacker, an operation designed to help stem the flow of munitions and foreign fighters into Iraq from Syria. Terrorists have been suspected of using the region as a haven from which they conduct their attacks. During this search, Soldiers detained 20 people for questioning.
